Pharmaceutical repackaging, often referred to as prepackaged medications, is the process of packaging pharmaceuticals in the pill sizes that a physician would typically write a prescription for. This way the medication can be dispensed directly at the point of care, instead of at the pharmacy. Prepackaged pharmaceuticals increase medication adherence and patient safety, if done by responsible and professional prepackaged medication providers.

Each medication that is shipped to our repackaging facility goes through a rigorous quality assurance process to ensure that everything we receive is up to our standards.
Once approved, the pharmaceuticals are prepped for repackaging at our facility in Dawsonville, GA (just north of Atlanta). We strictly follow all FDA and CFR guidelines to ensure the quality, traceability and safety of all our prepackaged medication deliverables.

Our goal at DirectRx is to make the process of ensuring receipt of a prescription simpler via our online ordering & dispensing system. The tools and automation built into the dispensing software cuts down processing time, reduces the risk for errors and better ensures medication compliance.
Medical practitioners that sign up for our program as a prepackaged medication provider, typically establish their desired medication formulary and place an initial medication order. Once received by the physician, medications can be easily organized in the dispensing cabinet by med name, therapeutic category, pills vs. suspensions or liquids, etc. The method is entirely customizable by preference.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN AFTER I MAKE MY PREPACKAGED MEDICATION REQUEST?
After you have completed your order for medications, one of our qualified pharmaceutical staff will start the process of packaging each medication, preparing a pedigree and performing a final QA of the order before it is delivered to ensure the highest quality and accuracy possible.
ARE THE DISTRIBUTED PRE-PACKAGED MEDICATIONS RECORDED?
When you sign up for an account with DirectRx, you are also given access to our online dispensing software. Each shipment you receive and dispensing transaction you perform is tracked in real-time.
Records of pre-packaged medications shall be maintained to show:
- name of the drug, strength, and dosage form;
- facility’s unique lot number;
- manufacturer or distributor;
- manufacturer’s lot number;
- expiration date;
- quantity per prepackaged medications unit;
- number of prepackaged medications units;
- date packaged;
- name, initials, or electronic signature of the prepacker; and
- name, initials, or electronic signature of the responsible pharmacist.
Our system also stores your patient’s dispensing records, submits the state required PDMP (Prescription Drug Monitoring Program) reports for you automatically, all while ensuring strict patient confidentiality.
ARE THE MEDICATIONS WELL PACKED?
Our certified pharmaceutical staff is highly trained to follow strict process controls to make sure our pre-packaged medicines are of the highest quality. We follow each of the required CFR rules (Code of Federal Regulations) with regards to medication packaging so you can be sure that you are in compliance with all FDA requirements.
The patient-specific labels that are printed during dispensing also follow each state specific rules with regards to the information that is required to be present on the label.
